Abstract. This study investigates students' perceptions of the public sector and examines how these views influence their career preferences. Data were collected via a questionnaire distributed to 190 students in Norway, comprising undergraduate business students and experienced public-sector employees enrolled in a Master of Public Administration (MPA) programme. Employing quantitative methods, including t-tests and correlation analysis, the study identifies significant differences in attitudes towards the public sector between these two groups, as well as between students aspiring to careers in the public versus the private sector. The public sector is generally perceived as more bureaucratic, less flexible, and less conducive to rapid career progression. By contrast, the private sector is associated with greater efficiency and enhanced individual career opportunities. In particular, access to a professional network is seen as highly advantageous in the private sector. These insights are especially relevant for policymakers and public-sector employers seeking to attract talent in an increasingly competitive labour market, particularly amid ongoing workforce shortages.

Abstract. This paper reviews current research about the use of design thinking in inspiring innovation at higher education institutions. One such aspect of design thinking, a human-centered approach, has found a foothold in various industries, including the educational sector, with many perceiving design thinking as the way to tackle complex matters. This study synthesizes different possible variables related to the applicability of higher education design thinking. Important among these are empathy, collaboration, and iteration, as well as their role in enhancing innovative growth among faculty, students, and staff. It looks at the extent of the culture of an organization, the openness and support of leadership, and choices, while at the same time examining the stumbling blocks that would face the regular diffusion of design thinking in educational practices, e.g. the resistance to change, the absence of support within the educational environment, and reluctance in training. This work, then, is very much pertinent to the broader understanding of design thinking as a lever for innovation in higher education by practitioners, policymakers, and researchers.

Abstract. This paper explores the level of compliance with integrated reporting regulations in Romania and the member states of the European Union, emphasizing the role of accountants in this process. Regulations impose non-financial reporting obligations, promoting transparency and social responsibility. In Romania, although integrated reporting is gaining traction, challenges persist regarding implementation and alignment with international standards (IIRC, GRI). The study highlights the essential contribution of accountants in ensuring corporate sustainability and compliance; however, significant differences exist among EU member states in terms of regulatory application. By outlining these differences and the challenges encountered, the research formulates recommendations for improving practices and aligning with European requirements. The limitations of integrated reporting include the lack of standardized data and legislative discrepancies. Future research directions focus on analyzing the impact of integrated reporting on financial performance and investor confidence. This study is relevant to both practitioners and policymakers, as it provides an updated perspective on the contribution of accountants to promoting transparency and corporate sustainability.

Abstract. This qualitative study explored the transformative potential of school-based learning for preservice teachers at a university of technology in the Free State province of South Africa. Preservice teacher education programs globally face the ongoing challenge of effectively bridging theoretical learning with practical classroom experience. Grounded in transformative learning theory, the research employed semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions with 15 purposefully selected third-year Bachelor of Education students specialising in being trained to teach in the Further Education and Training (FET) phase (Grade 10-12). The findings reveal significant shifts in preservice teachers' beliefs about teaching, illustrating a movement from idealistic views rooted in theoretical knowledge to a more nuanced understanding shaped by practical classroom experience. Participants highlighted diverse school contexts as sources of both challenges, such as resource limitations and opportunities for innovation and adaptability in teaching practices. These experiences were pivotal in developing a professional identity and commitment to social justice in education. The study concludes with the critical need for teacher education programs to prioritise robust, contextualised school-based experiences, suggesting that such transformative training can better equip preservice teachers to meet the diverse needs of learners and navigate the complexities of the South African education system. The implications extend to curriculum development and mentoring practices, which require re-evaluation to enhance educational outcomes in Southern Africa.

Abstract. The human need for knowledge has existed since our emergence as a species and will always persist, as it can be unequivocally described, both from an evolutionary and a cognitive point of view, as a form of adaptation to an environment. If we consider the fact that the instructions for human adaptation to the environment in which he appeared are encoded in his genetic makeup and, at the same time, the fact that humans possess the natural ability to consciously detect their presence, their actions and the environment in which those are manifesting, then a rigorous examination of how the need for knowledge produces effects at the individual level may offer new perspectives into our collective evolution.

Abstract. Artificial Intelligence (AI) increasingly transforms teaching and learning in South African higher education institutions (HEIs). Its integration into academic environments has introduced innovative teaching methodologies, improved access to educational resources, and personalised learning experiences. For historically disadvantaged students, AI-driven tools offer an opportunity to bridge academic gaps by providing real-time support, adaptive learning, and broader access to quality content. Nevertheless, concerns persist regarding its impact on pedagogical effectiveness, curriculum integrity, and student engagement. While AI enhances efficiency in content delivery and administrative tasks, its role in fostering deep learning and critical thinking remains contested. Over-reliance on AI may diminish students' ability to engage in problem-solving, independent reasoning, and knowledge construction. Furthermore, disparities in access to AI tools due to digital infrastructure limitations in certain regions pose challenges to equitable learning opportunities. Academics also face difficulties adapting teaching strategies to incorporate AI while maintaining instructional quality. This study employs a qualitative content analysis approach, drawing from existing literature. The paper critically examines how AI influences assessment methods and student-teacher interactions, focusing on maintaining high educational standards. The findings will contribute to ongoing discussions on policy development in higher education, advocating for a balanced approach that leverages AI's benefits without compromising academic rigour and critical engagement by addressing both opportunities and challenges.

Abstract. This conceptual paper explores the influence of prison environments on the mental conditions of incarcerated inmates. The primary objective is to synthesize existing knowledge and interpretations from various scholarly sources to facilitate a more profound understanding of how incarceration impacts inmate psychological well-being. Data collection involved a systematic review of books and peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2025, focusing specifically on the lived experiences of incarcerated individuals and the institutional factors affecting their mental health. The analysis was conducted using an interpretive paradigm, allowing for a nuanced and context-sensitive interpretation of the literature. Findings reveal that institutional neglect—particularly the absence of adequate educational and rehabilitative infrastructure—reflects a broader disregard for the intellectual and emotional development of inmates. The prison environment, characterized by isolation, limited autonomy, exposure to violence, and inadequate mental health services, contributes to the emergence and worsening of psychological symptoms. Notably, many individuals develop post-incarceration syndrome, exhibiting symptoms such as social disorientation, emotional numbing, difficulty in maintaining relationships, persistent anxiety, and hypervigilance. These conditions often persist long after release, severely hindering reintegration into society. The study underscores the urgent need for trauma-informed rehabilitative prison practices that prioritize the psychological well-being and social reintegration of inmates.

Abstract. Childhood was a central theme in Romanian cinema during the Ceauşescu regime, reflecting both the ideals promoted by the party and the social realities of the time. Films produced during this period primarily had an educational and propagandistic role, promoting ideological values, but they also managed to capture a certain autonomy of the child, emotional complexity, and even subversion within child characters, despite the constraints imposed by family, educators, or government directives. In this paper I will analyze a selection of films from different stages of the Communist period, highlighting the representations of childhood and the complex relationships between autonomy, responsibility, and dependency foreshadowed in these productions. I will explore three representative films from different stages of the communist period: Aventurile lui BabuSca (1973, Gheorghe Naghi & Geta Doina Tarnavski), De dragul tau, Anca (1983, Cristiana Nicolae), and Întâmplari cu Alexandra (1989, Cornel Diaconu). Beyond their thematic content, these films introduced innovative forms of storytelling such as: blending realism with fantastical or exaggerated elements, exploring the psychology of the child, and experimenting with image, music, and editing in ways that made them aesthetically engaging.

Abstract. Throughout the existence of human beings, there are records of our ancestors in the process of migration, a phenomenon that continues to occur day by day, whether legally or illegally, people try to find a better lifestyle. As for the country, Mexico is a strategic point for migration due to its location, with Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua being a step to cross into the state of Texas and to the north of the United States, Canada. Now, leaving geography aside, the phenomenon of migration has a risk factor for the mental health of the migrant, especially those who live in shelters or on the streets waiting to cross. A migrant leaves their home, family, friends, possessions and embarks on a journey that many times and for a long list of reasons has no return, having a direct impact on mental health because of what they see, because of the experience, because of what they feel, because of what happens to them in their migratory process. Conducting this research had a considerable emotional impact due to the conditions in which migrants find themselves, including transference and countertransference within that context in contact with the migrant.

Abstract. This research aimed to examine the external environmental complexities affecting leadership effectiveness in uMzimkhulu Municipality using the complex adaptive leadership theory as its theoretical framework. It used a mixed methods approach. Purposive sampling was used to draw a sample of managerial employees from the municipality and semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from them. A survey questionnaire was used to collect data from non-managerial employees from the same municipality. The results showed agreeability that community pressures, political change dynamics and changes in economic cycles were the key external factors that challenged the municipality's ability to meet its service delivery goals. The external environment of the UMLM is complex, intricate and dynamic enough to adversely affect leadership effectiveness. As recommended, on the strategic front, the municipality needed to enhance contingency strategies that directly deal with the external environment challenges that affect service delivery. On the leadership development front, it needed to equip its leaders with skills to manage external environment complexities, including through the guidance of the complex adaptive leadership theory.

Abstract. The study investigated the relationship between the principals' budgeting competencies and the performance of selected financial management roles in public secondary schools in Kajiado County, Kenya. It combined Scientific Management Theory (SMT) and systems theory to form a strong theoretical framework. It adopted a quantitative methodology using a correlational research design and a qualitative methodology using a case study design. Data from principals and bursars was collected through questionnaires, while semi-structured interviews were used for school auditors. The study used a multistage sampling technique to select a sample of 115 public secondary school principals and 111 school bursars, while three school auditors were selected purposively. The findings indicate that there was a positive and statistically significant relationship between the principals' budgeting competencies and their performance of financial management roles; They also indicate that some principals did not have the necessary budgeting competencies to prepare budgets on time, interpret the budgets regularly, guide the heads of departments in budget making, link school development plans to their budgets and prepare comprehensive budgets. The study recommends that principals be trained, mentored and coached in comprehensive budget preparation and interpretation, and school development plans should be linked to budgets. They should also be trained, mentored and coached in monitoring budget implementation and aligning budgets with vote heads to address the competency and skills gaps.

Abstract. Heat waves, wildfires, super storms are all clearly reminders of where humanity is right now. The natural balance of the planet is changing, and this is just the beginning. Climate change has taken over the world and it is affecting each sector of the human existence. One of the most important and highly affected sectors is agriculture. The most crucial sector which caters for food consumption of the entire globe. Furthermore, agriculture is at the core of economic development of many countries as it determines food security. Underpinning food systems, agricultural activities constitute an indispensable pillar of sustainable development. This is especially true in South Africa, where the economic, social and environmental opportunities of sustainable agriculture is yet to be fully exploited. Over the last two decades, agriculture has been subject to drastic economic and social evolutions in the country. Considerably, climate change is progressively, but undeniably, changing the environmental, social and economic conditions affecting agriculture. There are many environmental problems that South African government cannot possibly address rapidly or effectively enough alone, the crucial role of private business initiatives in achieving climate and environmental goals reflects the broader paradigm shift that has occurred in global environmental regulation in the past 20 years should be acknowledged (Kingston, 2019). However, the effects of climate change on rural livestock farming (Agricultural activities) depends on many associated factors that can be detrimental to the economic viability and sustainability of livestock production. Therefore, agriculture can be a major contributor to the local economy, if the climatic conditions are favourable. Agriculture has been the backbone of rural economy; therefore, the local municipality should fast track arable land and irrigation schemes (Maluleke & Mokwena, 2017).

Abstract. The research in this paper reviews the literature on students with disabilities (SWDs) in higher education to assess their access to education. show the need for every instructor and educational institution to ensure that students' needs are meet appropriately for every student. The research identifies three primary areas of accessibility challenges: originates physical, digital and social rules. Examples of physical barriers are barriers in the structures that include ramp, transport issues and reduced access to classes and other facilities. They pose challenges on student's mobility and engagement in the academic community. Digital accessibility problems stem from inadequate web-based learning interface design and absence of equally effective educational media in the form of text, which limits students' interaction with curricular content. Students with disability also suffer from social and emotional problems that include stigma, discrimination, and inadequate mental support and health care. The research also discusses the institutional responses to these challenges based on disability service and accommodation. It covers the kind of facilities provided and assesses the present service delivery system. Also, it provides information regarding the matters related to the access such as training programs for campus access audits. It is hereby important to note that the study reviews case studies of higher education institutions which are keen on promoting access for students with disabilities and demonstrates good practices as well as provides recommendations for other institutions. Though progress has been made, studies still lack focus that arises when disability intersects with other forms of diversity and the need for the study is still inadequately addressed. This paper ends by retracing the key lessons for policy and practice while calling on institutions not to overlook the importance of accessibility as a core responsibility. When higher education institutions encourage a culture of diversity and equality then the opportunities available within college can improve learning outcomes and remove barriers to success for the students.

Abstract. The Fourth Industrial Revolution has brought many changes to higher education, such as the introduction of digital technologies in teaching and learning processes. In this systematic literature review, studies from repositories like EBSCO and Google Scholar were collected to understand how the Technology Acceptance Model could provide answers to the said linkages. The study then focused on technology use in education and the consequent improvement of academic performance whilst identifying portions of the populace, which had yet to be bridged in terms of digital exclusion. Confirmed were the findings of having a digital divide or digital exclusion among selected students, aligning to earlier studies in higher education. The study underscored the fact that digital exclusion and division are different from one person to another, from institutions, and from countries. These issues were classified into social exclusion, digital exclusion, and accessibility, thus creating a robust understanding of digital exclusion in higher education. Addressing these lighting issues could prove problematic as the solutions vary with the specific context of the institution. For example, the study proposes inclusivity measures even in higher education, such as creating digital competency training for all students and provision for the appropriate technologies. By doing so, higher education institutions can ensure equal opportunity for students to succeed in this modern digital age.

Abstract. This paper aims to demonstrate that mythical structures, capable of organizing the imaginary and directing it toward acquiring products as symbolic objects, play a significant role in advertising design. By extension, they leave an imprint on the broader cultural and mental landscape of the contemporary world. The relationship between archetypes and myths is outlined as a complex interplay of actualization, manifestation, and organization through which the two intertwine. As a secular form of contemporary remythologization, advertising borrows numerous iconic schemes and a symbolic polysemy from the archetypal reservoir to transfer them into the realm of brands and products.

Abstract. Rapid technological advancements have redefined organizational leadership, positioning digital leadership as a critical factor in enhancing employee performance. This study presents global evidence from a meta-analysis that explores the relationship between digital leadership and employee performance across various industries and countries. The study investigates the impact of digital leadership on employee performance, synthesizing empirical evidence from 16 peer-reviewed studies published between 2021 and 2024 from Scopus and Google Scholar databases. The meta-analysis utilized statistical tools like the Forest Plot and Funnel Plot to examine the robustness and reliability of findings, supplemented by the Fail-Safe N Test to evaluate publication bias. Hence, the study employs a random-effects model to analyze the relationship between digital leadership and employee performance, revealing a significant positive correlation. The findings indicate that digital leadership significantly impacts key organizational variables, including employee engagement, innovation, and performance metrics such as profitability and market share. The analysis also highlights variations in the effectiveness of digital leadership across industries, with the IT, education, and commerce sectors demonstrating strong correlations. Geographical differences further underscore the importance of culturally tailored leadership strategies, with South Korea and China demonstrating the strongest correlations, while regions like Nigeria and Turkey show limited but positive effects. However, the analysis also identifies substantial residual heterogeneity, suggesting that additional factors beyond digital leadership may influence performance outcomes. Despite potential publication bias, the robustness of the findings is confirmed by a Fail-Safe N value of 1.912 x 10^9, underscoring the reliability of the results. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital leadership, providing evidence-based insights for organizations navigating the complexities of the digital age. It emphasizes the need for leadership training programs that integrate digital competencies, cross-cultural integration, and industry-specific digital strategies to maximize its impact.

Abstract. This study examines how learner behaviour impacts academic outcomes and classroom dynamics in secondary schools, with a particular focus on leadership strategies for managing discipline. Using a qualitative research design, the study gathered in-depth perspectives from participants including two teachers, two School Management Team members (also parents), and four student leaders through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. Thematic analysis revealed that disruptive learner behaviour diminishes academic performance by reducing instructional time and creating a negative classroom atmosphere. Participants emphasized the importance of proactive leadership practices, such as positive reinforcement, restorative discipline methods, and stakeholder collaboration. The study also noted that learner behaviour affects socialization, peer relationships, and overall student well-being. Schools that implement inclusive and supportive discipline strategies foster a sense of belonging and social cohesion, which in turn enhances academic engagement and performance. The findings indicate that effective discipline management requires a balanced, holistic approach that combines strict policies with supportive interventions to promote both behavioural and academic success. The study contributes valuable insights to the discussion on educational leadership and discipline in secondary education, underscoring the need for educator training to better address diverse student needs. Ultimately, fostering an environment that values academic and personal growth prepares students for success beyond the classroom. In summary, this investigation highlights blending supportive and corrective measures as vital for preserving optimal learning conditions, ensuring students remain engaged and achieve academic excellence.

Abstract. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is enacting a profound transformation across the audiovisual media landscape, reconfiguring practices, economies, and cultural forms. This paper addresses the research question: How is AI reconfiguring the entire ecosystem of audiovisual media, from the granularities of production to the macro-structures of cultural meaning, economic models, and regulatory control? Employing a systematic literature review, we analyze the integration of AI across the media value chain and its broader socio-cultural implications. We find that while AI offers unprecedented efficiencies, it also introduces significant challenges related to creative homogenization, labor displacement, algorithmic bias, and intellectual property. To provide a comprehensive analytical lens, we propose the theoretical framework of the Algorithmic Auteur. This concept extends traditional auteur theory to conceptualize AI not as a mere tool, but as a complex, networked agent whose outputs are shaped by the interplay of its technical architecture, training data, economic imperatives, and human collaborators. Our analysis reveals three critical dynamics: a nexus between efficiency and creative homogenization, where AI's predictive logic favors derivative content; the emergence of labor agreements as a primary form of grassroots algorithmic governance; and a fundamental divergence in global regulatory philosophies, pitting a rights-based European model against a market-driven American one. We conclude by offering recommendations for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and educators to foster a human-centric approach to AI integration, ensuring that technological innovation serves to augment, rather than subvert, human creativity and cultural diversity.

Abstract. The main objective of the study was to examine the effects of water scarcity in rural communities. The democratic South African government introduced services such as food and water provision to eradicate poverty in rural communities. However, to succeed in water supply, the local government must provide services to the area under its jurisdiction. In South Africa, the provision of water is a democratic right of each citizen. According to Section 27 of the Constitution, everyone has the right to have access, among other rights, to sufficient water and food. The first municipal elections were held in 2000, and the municipalities were formed as the third independent sphere of the government to address past injustices in providing portable water, sanitation, and refuse removal electricity through development projects. The study adopted qualitative research methodology to understand the effect of water scarcity in rural communities. In the study, data collection instruments such as semi-structured questionnaires, interviews, and document study were used. In terms of qualitative research design, semi-structured questionnaires were used to collect data. Furthermore, purposeful and random sampling was used. The research findings revealed that there is water scarcity in the rural area that negatively affects the health of community members, agricultural activities, livestock, and businesses. The water supply in the rural area of the municipality is not satisfactory. As a result, this research advocates that the Blouberg Local Municipality should use the Intergovernmental Relations Forum to address the problem of water provision in the Ga-Dankie village.

Abstract. Providing school psychosocial support is essential for promoting learner well-being and academic success. However, South African schools continue to face a critical shortage of social workers, limiting access to necessary interventions for learners experiencing socio-emotional, behavioural, and mental health challenges. This literature-based study explores the role of social workers in school-based psychosocial support, the impact of their absence on learners and educators, and the broader implications for the education system. Drawing on national and international literature, the paper examines existing policies, including the Department of Basic Education Care and Support for Teaching and Learning (CSTL) framework, and highlights the gaps in implementation. The study also discusses alternative psychosocial support mechanisms currently in place and evaluates their effectiveness without dedicated social workers. Finally, the paper provides recommendations for strengthening psychosocial support structures through policy reforms, capacity building, and multi-sectoral collaboration to address the growing mental health and social challenges learners face.

Abstract. This conceptual study is a focus on the issues that were given prominence during the campaigns run-up to the 2023 presidential election conducted in Nigeria. This study was mainly conducted to examine critical issues that shaped political campaigns during the period under review. The researchers relied on existing knowledge and studies coupled with personal observation to discuss the issues. The study particularly showed that campaign issues during the issues were mainly about the ethnicity and religious orientations of candidates that vied for the presidential tickets under various political parties. Furthermore, policy issues, power rotation arrangements (written and unwritten) and security matters were also given attention in the campaigns. These issues generated fierce debates among the candidates with noticeable parallels in their stance on each of the items of discourse. Nevertheless, some of the positions depict serious approach to the matters. Some others were just based on insinuations and it was across various political parties that participated in the elections. Consequently, the researchers relied on the findings and concluded that issues on the socio-economic and political growth and development of Nigeria featured prominently during the electioneering campaigns in the run up to the country's 2023 presidential election and recommended that issues are treated with seriousness and mundane others left out of the campaigns

Abstract. The objective of this conceptual paper is to explore relational leadership as a fundamental building block for ethical transformation and a remedy for toxicity in higher education institutions. It mitigates the contention that leadership approaches profoundly shape institutional culture, influencing inclusivity, decision-making, and ethical governance. The study is guided by the critical question: How does relational leadership foster ethical transformation while addressing toxic leadership dynamics in higher education? A qualitative approach is adopted, utilizing an intensive literature review of scholarly books and peer-reviewed articles as primary data sources. An interpretive paradigm is selected to analyse leadership dynamics, emphasizing the role of trust, collaboration, and ethical engagement in mitigating toxic behaviors such as authoritarianism, favouritism, and exclusionary practices. Findings reveal that relational leadership fosters accountability, transparency, and stakeholder empowerment, which are essential for institutional transformation. However, the study highlights challenges such as resistance to change and entrenched toxic leadership cultures. The study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by advocating for relational leadership as a sustainable solution for ethical governance. Nonetheless, limitations include reliance on secondary data, necessitating empirical validation through case studies and field research.

Departmental heads in the Foundation Phase in the South African primary schools are appointed from the ranks of educators and their operation and job descriptions are governed in line with the Personnel Administrative Measures. Bridges' transition theory accentuates the importance of understanding the contexts in which these middle managers operate and provide possible coping mechanisms in the new responsibilities. This article explores the theory as it pertains to Foundation Phase departmental heads who are classroom-based and also have to perform management duties. In conjunction with relevant legislation governing Foundation Phase departmental heads, the study seeks to weigh in on the strengths and weaknesses of the theory along with related literature. This study adopted a qualitative and interpretive approach and involved 18 participants in four categories. These participants were primary school principals, deputy-principals, Foundation Phase departmental heads and their curriculum advisors. Through interviews using purposively sampled schools and officials in Mopani East District in South Africa, the study collected empirical evidence. One remarkable finding was that most of the participants argued that transition and change refer to two different processes. The former involves multiple stages that need precise attention while the latter can be a once-off thing. Bridges' theory fails to outline step-by-step measures that departmental heads can use in order to manage their work environment effectively. The study emphasised the need to introduce scholarships and bursaries for promotion enthusiasts so that they get ready for the new responsibilities in time and execute them with aplomb. Doing so can facilitate effective transition and effectiveness in their work. The importance of collaboration among all stakeholders was also a focal point so that regular monitoring and support programmes in schools can be carried out. The study recommended that the Circuits and the Districts need to champion all management development programmes and initiatives for Foundation Phase departmental heads to bolster their efficiency.

Abstract. This qualitative study investigates how head teachers in Bangladesh's Lakshmipur primary schools demonstrated leadership both during and after the 2024 flash floods. Through semi-structured interviews with twelve teachers, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with twenty parents, and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with three head teachers, the study examines how head teachers handled school operations, responded to the crisis, protected student welfare, and promoted community cooperation. The results show that by implementing emergency response plans, gathering resources, offering psychosocial support, and maintaining educational continuity through creative and situation-specific methods, head teachers became recognized as community leaders. They provided vital insights into disaster-responsive educational leadership in vulnerable rural settings, and their leadership was marked by resilience, empathy, adaptability, and grassroots coordination. Head teachers used unofficial networks and community goodwill to restore education with low dropout rates in spite of health hazards, communication breakdowns, and infrastructure damage. The study emphasizes the potential of local leadership in promoting educational resilience and stresses the significance of incorporating school-based disaster management into national education policies. These observations add to the expanding corpus of research on crisis leadership in education, particularly in settings that are vulnerable to climate change.

Abstract. This paper investigated how Natural Sciences and Technology teachers integrate environmental education into their teaching. Due to ongoing changes in the South African school curriculum, teachers have struggled to incorporate environmental education effectively. The study used an interpretative research paradigm and a multiple case study design, guided by the theoretical framework of social constructivism. It was conducted in the iLembe district of KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa and involved three grade 6 primary school teachers specializing in Natural Sciences and Technology. Data collection methods included semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis, and the data was analyzed thematically. The findings revealed that some teachers had misconceptions about integrating environmental education. To address this, it is recommended that subject advisors take a more active role in promoting the integration of environmental education during content workshops. The study also found that teachers relied on instructional strategies that hindered effective integration. Therefore, teachers should explore a broader range of instructional strategies. Lastly, the study found that the support provided by departmental officials was insufficient, and it is suggested that they establish connections with other stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and reintroduce environmental education programs in schools.

Abstract. The scientific study and exploration of slough skin cells as physical evidence found at rape crime scene have helped in solving rape cases resulting in the identification, linkage and apprehension of perpetrators. Therefore, investigation of rape is heavily reliant on the collecting, handling and preservation of physical evidence, which often provides the court with conclusive proof of solving this crime. For rape cases, the body of the victims and perpetrators and locations where rape occurs can present physical evidence. This study explored slough skin cells in rape cases as a source of Deoxyribonucleic Acid evidence to identify and link suspects to rape cases. The aim of this study was “to explore slough skin cells as physical evidence in the investigation of rape in Gauteng Province". This qualitative study employed the phenomenological research design. Twenty (20) forensic investigator participants attached to the South African Police Service Local Criminal Record Centre (SAPS LCRC) from Krugersdorp were chosen through purposive sampling as they oversaw conducting forensic investigations at rape crime scenes. Semi-structured one-on-one interviews were adopted as the data collection method. Data collected was analysed using thematic analysis. This study revealed that Krugersdorp SAPS LCRC forensic investigators adhere to and comply with the SAPS guidelines while investigating rape cases in GP. The focus was on the experiences of SAPS LCRC Krugersdorp forensic investigators as it is their responsibility to forensically investigate rape crime scenes in terms of the SAPS LCRC Crime Scene Policy (2005) and SAPS National Instruction (NI) 1 of 2015 on Crime Scene Management. This study highlighted the importance of complying and adhering to the set guidelines when investigating rape cases for slough skin cells as physical evidence. This study, therefore, recommends that non-compliance with the SAPS guidelines of NI 1 of 2015 on Crime Scene Management must be dealt with according to the SAPS Disciplinary Regulations 1 of 2016. Furthermore, it is recommended that the SAPS LCRC CSI policies be reviewed and updated quarterly to keep up with new technology. In addition, it is recommended that the SAPS review and upgrade SAPS LCRC training course materials and manuals and incorporate slough skin cells as physical evidence.

Abstract. Crime prevention by the local South African Police Service (SAPS) remains an impossible mandate. Their sole operations cannot holistically prevent crime, without the help of community members. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the crime prevention partnership between the SAPS and Mankweng policing area residents. This qualitative study adopted phenomenography research design to purposively evaluate perceptions of Twenty (20) community members and Five (05) SAPS Senior Management, Commissioned Officers; attached to the Mankweng Police Station. The semi-structured face-to-face interviews were used for data collections, with the adoption of phenomenological data analysis. This study established that poor-working partnership and poor-communication between the SAPS and community members often result in lower public confidence and trust on the police, further denting their image. The community members perceptions are negative, increasing the personal safety and fear of crime in the Mankweng policing area. It is recommended that collaborative efforts should be staged to enhance the failing relationship. Training should be introduced to positively contributes to improvement of the Intelligence-Led Policing (ILP) in the study location.

Abstract. The rise of social media in South Africa has resulted in several risks linked with its use and exposure. A new type of commercial sex labour camouflaged behind the blesser-blessee notions grew so popular in 2016 that it thrived, thanks to exposure from social media platforms such as X, formerly known as Twitter and Instagram. Previous research has focused on the rationale for the existence of this new commercial sex activity disguised as blesser-blessee. This current study focuses on the commercial sex work associated with social media in South Africa and concomitant victimisation. The qualitative content literature study method and qualitative content analyses were used to analyse the data gathered by reviewing previous studies. The study found that the blesser-blessee relationship violates social morals and exposes the recipient to health risks and unplanned pregnancy. The study recommends improvement of economic participation by young adult females; this will give them economic power and allow them to safeguard themselves from sexual exploitation because they wish to attain a flashy lifestyle.

Abstract. This study examines the role of coaching and mentoring as professional development interventions aimed at enhancing lecturer competencies within South African Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. Drawing on a systematic literature review, the paper synthesises recent empirical and theoretical contributions to identify how these interventions support the development of pedagogical, personal, social, and professional competencies. The findings indicate that while coaching and mentoring remain underutilised in the South African TVET sector, they present significant potential to address persistent skills gaps and align educator competencies with labour market needs. The study proposes a conceptual model grounded in General Systems Theory, outlining how coaching and mentoring, supported by institutional structures, contribute to sustained competency development. The model emphasises the importance of structured, context-specific approaches to lecturer support. The paper concludes by recommending the formal integration of coaching and mentoring frameworks into institutional policy to enhance the quality and relevance of TVET education.

Abstract. This study focuses on the role that higher education institutions play in addressing these disparities, with the aim of improving academic achievement and reducing educational inequities among under-represented students. The guiding question for this study is: how can higher education institutions leverage Open Educational Resources (OERs) to ensure equitable access and usage among diverse student populations, thereby narrowing the achievement gap in online learning? This study adopted a qualitative approach, employing semi-structured interviews as the primary data collection instrument with 24 participants. The study was based on social cognitive theory to explore how OER accessibility and institutional support affect student performance in online learning environments. The results indicate that differences in technology resources, skills, and the ability of institutions to support OER use can lead to unequal learning results, less student involvement, and ongoing academic inequalities. This study reveals that fostering equitable access to OERs, coupled with targeted institutional interventions, has a powerful impact on improving academic performance and promoting inclusivity in higher education. The study has recommended that higher education institutions should invest in robust digital infrastructure to ensure equitable access to OERs for all students, particularly those from under-represented and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Abstract. In the learner-centered educational process, both the curricula and the evaluation are adapted to answer the young adult learner expectations. We should keep in mind that adults hold a distinct motivation, quite different from the one we observe in children. The present paper presents a case study on 56 foreign medical students learning Romanian during the first year of their medical studies within the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova. We used an anonymous Google form questionnaire sent through e-mail, designed exclusively for this study, comprising 14 questions regarding the skills and way of teaching of their Romanian teacher, focusing on how the teacher explains the objectives and requirements of the course, whether the teacher explains the subject clearly, if the teacher presents the material in a variety of ways and so on. The results showed that the majority of students were pleased with their teacher methods and way of teaching, with very few exceptions, namely the reinforcement of rules, whether the teacher makes the classes interesting and relevant or whether high standards and expectations are set for all students.

Abstract. Proper hygiene practices, handwashing in particular, are essential for the well-being of pupils in schools of which, the availability of adequate amount of water is a critical factor influencing these practices, especially in semi-arid regions. This study explored the hygiene practices as exhibited by pupils in public primary schools in Bahi District, Dodoma, Tanzania where water supply has recently been improved. Utilizing the qualitative methods coupled with the hermeneutic phenomenological case study design, the research highlights several key findings after the data being analyzed thematically subsequently to employing semi- structured interviews with headteachers, Focus Group Discussions with pupils and non-participant observations in three public primary schools as data collection methods and. The presence of multiple water points and enhanced Water- Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities, significantly increased the frequency of handwashing practices among pupils. Furthermore, the improved water access has led to cleaner and more conducive learning environments, thus the enhanced water availability not only boosts hygiene practices but also fosters a more favorable learning atmosphere. In that regard, insights into the real-life handwashing habits in semi-arid schools can inform policymakers and school administrators about the importance of ensuring adequate WASH facilities in place. Ultimately, the study underscores the necessity for the persistent investment in water accessibility so as to promote healthier learning environments and improve student's outcomes in similar contexts, thereby contributing to the overall well-being of pupils.

Abstract. The potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to improve teaching and learning is gaining traction in South African schools. Previously, economic, social and geographical factors constrained parental involvement and participation in school. However, the ever-increasing ICT-based innovations offer ample opportunities for expanding parental involvement. This article uses the Technology Acceptance Model as a theoretical lens to highlight how ICTs can enhance PI in former Model C schools in South Africa. The study adopted a mixed methods approach and a convergent parallel design to collect quantitative data from 100 parents using structured questionnaires. Additionally, in-depth interviews were used to generate qualitative data from 20 purposively selected teachers from five Tshwane South District schools. The study explored the challenges of PI, the utilisation of ICTs in schools, the impact of ICTs on PI, and proposes how ICT can be used to strengthen PI. The findings show that most parents used phones, followed by emails, and other platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook to communicate with schools. The study concludes that ICTs can be used successfully to enhance PI. Since many parents have ICT gadgets, schools should use these tools to communicate with them to improve PI.

Abstract. The present study opens an analysis of the fundamental elements of the hermeneutic situation in Martin Heidegger. The prerequisites, the partners and the hermeneutic relationship are evaluated as cardinal aspects of the hermeneutic situation. The prerequisites represent the initial consciousness of the presuppositions that establish the relationship between the partners. There are three prerequisites: prior-possession, prior-view and prior-conception. The partners are conscious beings engaged on the path of language in a relationship to a thing (object, something). The relationship that connects the partners through the prerequisites is the hermeneutic relationship.
