Abstract. This literature review paper sheds light on the systemic deficiencies, complexities, and untold stories in the public school system in the United States. It reveals that despite being an advanced democracy and a first-world country, the US education system still faces issues that hinder its developmental trajectory. Surprisingly, the uncertainties unmasked in the US education system are not far-fetched from the experiences that persist in developing countries. The paper is thought-provoking and raises important questions about the state of education in the modern world. As a result, relevant literature was thematically reviewed on systemic disparities that hinder the growth and development of education. The findings of the paper among others discussed issues that include the quantification of educational outcomes, systemic inequality, and segregation, school funding, differential access to infrastructure resources, as well as teachers' competencies and retention. Addressing the complexities and uncertainties of public education requires a multi-faceted approach involving policymakers, educators, parents, and communities to ensure equity and efficacy.

Abstract. This study examines the primary reasons students become less engaged in education, resulting in increased high school dropouts, among minority populations in the United States. A quantitative survey of 17 high school administrators and educators revealed that student motivation for dropping out or remaining in school is contingent on familial involvement, community resources, school programs, and established policies supporting student development. The findings suggest a need for community-based partnerships to address job placement, literacy, family involvement, and other services.

Abstract. This article explores the lasting impact of Michel Foucault's views on power and knowledge in several academic fields, specifically in the context of modern research in higher education. By drawing on many sources from different time periods, the article argues that Foucault's conceptual framework offers scholars a deep perspective to analyse the complex interactions between power, knowledge, and their interconnection. This highlights the crucial significance of Foucault's theories as a theoretical framework for understanding the intricacies of higher education, where academic institutions are acknowledged as centres of power dynamics and the creation of knowledge. The article examines the use of Foucault's power and knowledge framework in higher education research while also recognising its influence. The text explores the difficulties, inconsistencies, and possible restrictions while also discussing worries regarding the freedom of academia, opposition from established authorities, and the risk of knowledge becoming too uniform within specific fields. The critique encompasses the marginalised voices in academia, raising doubts about the efficacy of the framework in enhancing the visibility of these perspectives. This article seeks to enhance our understanding of power relations in academia by conducting a thorough investigation. It promotes research methodologies that prioritise inclusivity, equity, and a diverse knowledge landscape, aiming to bring about transformative changes.

Abstract. This study examined psychological challenges of implementing inclusive education among South African learning support teachers. The study adopted a qualitative approach and a multiple case study of five primary schools in the Metropole East Education District, Western Cape, was conducted. Through semi-structured interviews, data from ten participants was gathered. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. The findings of this study revealed that main psychological challenges of learning support teachers when implementing inclusive education are stress, burn-out, emotional exhaustion, low self-efficacy and negative teacher attitudes. The findings suggest that effective intervention strategies for teachers' mental health are required to lessen the burden of stress that learning support teachers are experiencing. Teachers also need to participate in mental wellness programs so that they can be emotionally and psychologically prepared to meet the challenges they will inevitably face in the classroom, which would allow them to successfully implement inclusive education. The study recommends that social workers, psychologists, and therapists should be stationed in schools, or alternatively, ordinary mainstream schools should be transformed into full-service schools.

Abstract. Both trade and transport logistics activities have flourished in Ozoro over the past decades. Based on these observations, this paper conjectures that trade and transport logistics development are mutually reinforced. The potential economic impacts of transport improvement are not only likely to be significant and wide-ranging. Developing an understanding of the transport and transport related challenges opportunities facing alternative industry sectors is an important first step in the development of an investment programme to improve productivity and competitiveness particularly in a local economy such as Ozoro, in Delta, state Nigeria. Improvements in transport connectivity driven by increased network capacity, reduced travel times and cost together with improved network reliability generate improvements in productivity through what are sometimes referred to as agglomeration economies.

Abstract. Economic history is an important branch of economics, that can provide significant insights into historical economic phenomena. In this paper, I propose the 1997 compensation of war veterans by the Zimbabwean government (under President Robert Mugabe), as an example that can be used to teach economics concepts to undergraduate economics students. As the war veterans had threatened to remove the President from his office through violence, I show the trade-offs that Mugabe had to make, and the constraints he faced when agreeing to pay the funds to the veterans. I present a lesson plan that economics facilitators and lecturers can use with their learners. My example is unique in that it teaches students about making choices under compulsion, while most economics textbooks use examples that show voluntary choices.

Abstract. This article explores the complex issue of teacher retention in African high schools, using a psychosocial framework to analyse factors like work engagement, psychological capital, and occupational passion. Drawing from the Conservation of Resource (COR) theory, it underscores the importance of preserving resources for teachers' professional development. By reinstating psychological capital as a mediator, the study reveals positive connections between work engagement and key outcomes such as organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and satisfaction with retention practices. It identifies these factors as crucial for a resilient teaching workforce and emphasizes their role in guiding teacher retention. Beyond theory, the article recognizes their broader impact on institutional cohesion. The psychosocial model offers guidance to teachers, encouraging dedication, finding joy in work, and deriving fulfilment from passion. In marginalized communities' high schools, the research uncovers internal factors affecting retention while highlighting the endurance and commitment needed to overcome challenges. Ultimately, the psychosocial model is a tool for fostering resilient and dedicated teachers, shaping a vibrant educational landscape.

Abstract. Teachers' volition, relevant instruction and correction strategies are vital factors in capturing students' interest, attention, commitment and positive emotions in a learning situation which of course will allow them less time to engage in behavioural problems. The study adopted descriptive research design to investigate teachers' volition, instruction and correction strategies for teaching students' with behavioural problems in gender-specific secondary schools in Anambra state-Nigeria. Seven research questions guided the study. The population comprised all the 1,825 teachers in male secondary schools in Anambra state. A sample of 80 teachers was randomly selected from the schools using simple random sampling technique. A researcher-developed instrument named “Teachers' Volition, Instruction and Correction Strategies" (TVICS) was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by specialists in Education. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach alpha method and an alpha coefficient of 0.78 was obtained. The research questions were answered using frequencies, percentages and statistical weighted mean. The result of the study revealed that most teachers' lack volition to teach students' with behavioural problems. Also the instruction and correction strategies employed by majority of the teachers do not trigger intrinsic motivation and positive emotions of the students' which are vital for transformation of behavioural problems. Based on the findings, the researchers' recommended the use of instructional strategies like co-operative learning, games/simulations, project method, field trips/excursions, role playing as well as correction strategies like premack principle, praise and reinforcement among others.

Abstract. Parenting styles are an important factor in how parents raise their children. This study investigated the relationship between parenting styles and parental financial monitoring. Parenting style was measured through authoritarian, neglectful, authoritative, and permissive. This study adopted a quantitative research approach and used a self-administered questionnaire to collect data from young adults in two provinces (Gauteng and Mpumalanga) in South Africa. Correlation analysis was used to analyze data. The results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between authoritarian, neglectful, authoritative, and permissive parenting styles with parental financial monitoring. Parents should invest more time in understanding and evaluating their parenting styles and adopt authoritarian, neglectful, authoritative and permissive parenting styles as they were found to support and foster parental financial monitoring. Financial educators and government must design and implement financial programs aimed at making parents aware of different parenting styles. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by empirically testing the relationship between parenting styles and parental financial monitoring.

Abstract. Many studies have examined the performance of students of French as a Foreign Language in Nigeria and the influence of the linguistic environment on their performances; however, little or no attention has been paid to the impact of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)'s mode of admission on the academic performance of students of French in the Department of Foreign Languages. This mode of admission allows for candidates seeking admission to be taken into either what is known as Beginners or Non-beginners Class. This study, therefore, aims to appraise the academic performances of the two categories of students of French as a Foreign Language in the Department of Foreign Languages. For its data, the study relies on the academic performance of the two groups of students over a ten-year period (2010-2019) through their Part IV (Final Year) results and overall CGPA. The study reveals that the non-beginners have an edge generally. However, a comparison across the years shows that the difference in performance was not significant in most academic sessions. The paper concludes that even though secondary schools remain the best feed for admission into French studies in tertiary education, credibility should be accorded to the OAU model. Owing to the peculiarities associated with admission into the French degree programme in Nigeria, the paper recommends adopting the OAU model in other Nigerian universities, particularly now that NUC is pushing for a uniform curriculum in the Common Curriculum Minimum Academic Standard (CC-MAS).

Abstract. Martin Heidegger's lack of a systematic approach to philosophy of education has led many to believe he had little to offer on schooling and teaching. However, this assumption overlooks the implications of his fundamental ontology for academic freedom and education. Heidegger's ontological project, focusing on the investigation of Being, holds scattered implications for education. Integrating his insights reveals a Heideggerian perspective on educational philosophy, aiding the ontological investigation of human endeavour. Heidegger critiques modern academia's loss of authenticity due to technological enframing, advocating a return to questioning the essence of Being. He warns against the dominance of technological thinking in academic pursuits and emphasizes philosophy's role in critiquing scientific endeavours. He calls for a transformation in academia where philosophy guides scientific inquiry, restoring a sense of responsibility and fostering genuine thinking among students and professors. Ultimately, Heidegger's alternative vision advocates for a return to primordial questioning to safeguard the future of education and human understanding.

Abstract. Even though the idea of adult learning sounds impressive, adult learners face a set of challenges. This is explained by the theory of andragogy which clarifies that adult learners might have external responsibilities that could hinder and have a negative impact on their learning process. Adult learners experience a wide range of challenges that require a suitable learning solution that addresses this barrier while assisting them. The main aim of this article is to probe and delve into challenges encountered by adult learners in their respective adult learning centers. This would not be possible without the examination of relevant literature and adult education theories. This is an interpretative qualitative study of 12 participants. All the participants were adult learners who were currently registered in the adult education and training centers. The theoretical framework combines the theories of andragogy and experiential learning. The theory of andragogy explains that adult learners are generally independent and self-directed; their learning is based on their personal and future needs. Experiential learning theory requires learners to be active participants in the learning process and they should be at the center of learning. Factual evidence was validated through online interviews from purposively selected adult education centers in Ekurhuleni North. This present study was formulated to assist the Department of Higher Education and Training, adult education authorities, center managers, teachers, and instructors with adult learners' challenges that may hinder the process of teaching and learning. The study revealed convincing findings that adult education centers are not well supported in terms of resources, finances, infrastructure, and other educational needs. Most participants declared the need for continuous monitoring and visitations from educational department authorities to assess the state of affairs in these centers. A major recommendation from the study was for the government and the Department of Higher Education and Training to revisit the budget allocation for Adult Education and Training Centers. They should also ensure that the learning needs of adult learners are met to improve the quality of education.

Abstract. The present study circumscribes the communication side of hermeneutics and approaches the relationship between the hermeneutic subject, the existential context and the interpretive framework in Martin Heidegger. The method used is a dual one: comparative and reflexive. Following a repeated and intersected reading of Heidegger's texts, the relationships between the existential situation, the primary hermeneutic (etymological), the hermeneutic situation and the factual situation are synthesized. It is concluded that a) the hermeneutic situation always starts from a factual-phenomenal situation and b) that the hermeneutic and the factual converge in order to highlight (clarify) and delimit some things, some facts, some figures of thought, later thematized as phenomenological objects, described and structured. The research will be followed by an investigation that will delimit the elements of the hermeneutic situation (preliminaries, partners, hermeneutic relationship, work, language, discourse, listening, understanding, etc.).

Abstract. This systematic review explores the irreversible damage of body shaming on the identity of South African women on social media. Many people use social media, and women who use it are exposed to a variety of media users from all walks of life. As a result, when they post about themselves on these platforms, they receive a range of responses, from compliments to body shaming, which seems to be particularly popular among South African women. These women receive criticism and judgment based on their body types, which are contrasted with social media's standards. Two conceptual frameworks namely, Black feminist and Self-objectification theories provided perspectives about social media influence on the body shaming of South African women. Google scholar, Taylor and Francis, Scopus and ResearchGate were used to retrieve and analyse data from twenty-two (22) peer-reviewed journal articles (n=22) published between 2015 and 2023. Recommendations are also provided to help with further exploration to the impact of social media on South African women's body shaming. Therefore, the study is profitable as it paves the way for further studies relating to the research topic within the South African context.

Abstract. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have increased the number of digital technologies used to attend to digital learning, teaching, and research needs. The current Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) necessitates that HEIs employ digital technologies such as Endnote to aid students struggling with referencing in academic writing across study levels. This paper draws from a qualitative case study of five postgraduate students' experiences of using Endnote in research. The five participants were purposively selected for the study as they had used Endnote as a reference management software for their masters research projects. Data were generated using reflective journals and semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis and the Persona-Tech analytical framework were used to analyse and interpret data. The findings of the study revealed that students' experiences of using Endnote ranged from professional learning, to social learning from friends to personal learning. We conclude that strong professional and social learning enable students to have good and positive experiences of using Endnote in their studies and are able to advance their referencing skills. The study recommends that students familiarise themselves with Endnote before or during the early stages of their studies so that they can seek relevant interventions to aid their digital referencing skills.

Abstract. Research ethics is a critical component of any academic or scientific discipline. The ethical dilemmas that arise in research can be complex and require researchers to consider multiple perspectives and theories. Reflective practice is an important tool that can help researchers to navigate these challenges. In this paper, I explore the intersection of reflective practice, research ethics, ethical dilemmas, and research ethics theories. I begin by discussing the importance of doing ethical research and the role of reflective practice in promoting ethical behavior among researchers. Next, I examine some common ethical dilemmas that researchers may encounter and consider how reflective practice can be used to address them. Finally, I consider the role of research ethics theories in shaping both research practice and ethical decision making. Overall, the paper suggests that a reflective approach to research can help researchers to navigate complex ethical issues and make informed decisions. The paper further suggests the Ethics Reflection Model through which ethical dilemmas can be managed.

Abstract. Investments in transport infrastructure and accessibility represent the backbone of the cohesion policy and regional development. Since the 1990s, the European Union has supported the development of transport infrastructure as essential, not only from the perspective of building the infrastructure itself, but also due to the role that it has later in economic development. Currently, the Trans European Transport Network (TEN-T) policy is under revision and brings important changes to Romania along the new TEN-T corridor Baltic Sea – Black Sea - Aegean Sea. In this new TEN-T corridor, Via Carpatia is the most important road transport project with the potential to stimulate regional cities along the Timişoara-Arad-Oradea development axis. The research showed a high degree of citizens' expectations for the implementation of the Via Carpatia Project. Moreover, the research concluded the overwhelming need for developing new transport routes, mainly modern infrastructure such as highways, expressways, and metropolitan transport, which enhance the accessibility of citizens and favours economic development.

Abstract. The digital era has profoundly disrupted traditional local news outlets, leading to widespread closures, the formation of "news deserts," and concerns about diminished civic engagement and democratic health. This paper examines the transformation of local journalism amidst these challenges, focusing on the emergence of local news platforms as multifaceted community hubs. Drawing on theoretical frameworks including media localism, community-centered journalism, and media ecosystem theory, it analyzes the critical role of community engagement in fostering trust and sustainability. It details the significant economic, technological, and audience-related challenges confronting local news, alongside emerging opportunities such as diversified revenue streams and innovative, engagement-focused operational models. Through case studies, it illustrates how local news organizations are redefining their roles beyond mere information dissemination to become conveners, facilitators, and integral community institutions. Finally, it explores policy implications and future directions, arguing that a combination of grassroots innovation, strategic funding, supportive policies, and a conceptual shift towards viewing local news as a public good is necessary for its revitalization. The central thesis posits that by embracing a community-centric approach and functioning as dynamic hubs, local news platforms can achieve resilience and renew their vital role in contemporary society.

Abstract. This chapter investigates the integration of differentiated instruction strategies into pre-service teacher education curriculums, with a specific focus on promoting equity and inclusion in English language education. Differentiated instruction, a pedagogical approach tailored to meet diverse student needs, is critical in cultivating inclusive classrooms that enhance learning outcomes for all students. This study, using a desktop literature review approach, meticulously analyses peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings to identify effective practices and theoretical underpinnings that support the adoption of differentiated instruction in teacher training programmes. The review reveals that while differentiated instruction is widely endorsed for its potential to address diverse learning styles and backgrounds, its practical implementation in pre-service curriculums remains inconsistent. Several barriers emerge, including insufficient training on adaptive teaching methods, lack of resources, and inadequate support systems within teacher education institutions. However, studies also highlight successful integration strategies that involve comprehensive training modules, hands-on practice with diverse learner scenarios, and ongoing professional support. Empirical evidence suggests that pre-service teachers equipped with robust differentiated instruction skills are better prepared to foster inclusive environments that recognize and nurture individual student potentials. This is particularly pertinent in English language learning, where linguistic diversity presents unique challenges and opportunities. The review also underscores the need for educational policy reforms to reinforce the importance of these strategies in teacher accreditation standards. This paper contributes to the broader discourse on teacher education by delineating a clear framework for embedding differentiated instruction into pre-service programmes, aiming to bridge the gap between theoretical advocacy and practical application. It calls for a concerted effort among stakeholders to prioritize and resource this crucial aspect of teacher education.

Abstract. Kinship is considered a fundamental gateway to understanding patterns of social, cultural, and organizational interaction. The kinship term also represents a crucial structure within the prevalent kinship system in society. It reveals classifications related to relatives, defining their statuses and relationships with each other. Relationships among relatives, such as marriage, role distribution, positions, orphan care, inheritance distribution, and others, take into account the type of kinship and the nature of the specific kin identified by the kinship term. As a result, one can question the patterns of use and deployment of the kinship term in the social and cultural system.

Abstract. Ward committees and councillors are important to the functionality of committees in the policy-making processes. Local government municipalities depend on councillors and committees to facilitate community engagements and participation to ensure that communities receive the necessary services. This study aims to understand the role of ward committees and councillors in facilitating public participation and efficient service delivery to citizens. This study argues that the lack of capacity building of ward committees and councillors has led to the ineffectiveness and lack of participatory democracy in local government municipalities making service delivery unsatisfactory and unfavorable. The methodology used in this study is qualitative and data is obtained through interviews and other secondary sources and materials. The study was limited to the Greater Tzaneen Municipality representatives in the public participation portfolios. The study findings reveal that municipalities do not have enough capacity to build ward councillors and committees, leading to a lack of engagement from communities and municipalities. Abstract. This study is a research report, developed as an overview of the concept of doctor - patient communication. One of the most important aspects of the relationship between doctor and patient is the way that both parties have something to gain. This research is based on the necessity of performant communication between doctors and patients, the purpose of which is to ensure that patients and caregivers receive all the information that they need. The main focus of this study is to create a theoretical basis of the importance of doctor patient communication by pragmatically analyzing the concept of communication as an integral aspect of health care. Effective doctor - patient communication can be a source of motivation, incentive, reassurance and support. A good doctor-patient relationship can increase job satisfaction and reinforce patients' self- confidence, motivation and positively influence their view of their health status, thus positively impacting the treatment outcome. Most complaints made about doctors are related to issues of communication, not clinical competency. Patients want doctors who can not only skillfully diagnose and treat what ails them, but also communicate with them effectively.
