Abstract. Including immigrants and refugees in the host countries' education is an educational process encompassing political, social, and individual processes. Teachers, as an essential factor in the socialisation and inclusion of students in a particular society, play a mediating role in including students with migrant and refugee backgrounds. This study aimed to research the views of secondary school teachers in the Greek educational system regarding including migrant and refugee students in it. The participants were fourteen secondary school teachers. Qualitative research was chosen as a design of the research to investigate the teachers' views deeply. A semi-structured interview was used as a research tool. The analysis of the teachers' interviews revealed that most are positive towards including migrant and refugee students. Still, they consider using the Greek language as a prerequisite for inclusion. However, due to issues related to biosomatic and educational factors, some of the study teachers reported objections. Insufficient and inadequate educational policy plays a mediating role in shaping the above arguments.

Abstract. In this paper, we aim to investigate the incorporation of scaffolding strategies in the classroom, with a specific focus on stimulating and reinforcing the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). The main objective is to unveil the challenges that pupils face when learning a foreign language and to investigate the function of psycholinguistic techniques in improving the social and communication skills of young learners, enabling them to be self-regulated and autonomous. To collect data, a mixed-method design is employed, using both a questionnaire and a participant observation. The questionnaire evaluates the extent to which elementary school teachers of English in Tissemsilt, Algeria, use scaffolding in their classrooms. The participant observation aims to provide valuable insights into the functional use of these strategies in teaching English, specifically focusing on their impact on 3rd grade learners. The findings reveal that while the teachers exhibit their awareness of the scaffolding practical framework and its potential implications, the functional application of these strategies did not effectively target the learners' zone of proximal development. In this prospect, It is advisable to include psycholinguistic approaches in the training programs for teachers. This will promote their awareness of the scope and modernize the teaching strategies in foreign language learning.

Abstract. This study used descriptive research design to identify the factors affecting the development of the productive macro skills in English of randomly selected junior high school students in a private school in the Pagsanjan, Laguna, Philippines. Both the speaking and writing skill level of the students are good. Listening to English songs was given the highest rating as to perceived effectiveness. Moderately effective also are watching English movies, reading English books, using social networking sites, reading magazines, and playing video games. Result of multiple regression analysis revealed watching English movies contributes most to level of writing skills. Whereas, reading English books contributes most to the level of the speaking skills of the students' other factors such as using social networking sites and listening to English songs also have significant influence to speaking skills. Thus, the use of English movies on lectures in writing is recommended. It may be used as springboard or as evaluation activities. English teachers may also incorporate the use of social media, and different books during class discussion and activities. Speaking and writing skills are an important part of communication. Thus, activities that will gear towards developing these productive macro skills in English are encouraged.

Abstract. This paper examines the trends, impact and factors contributing to service delivery protests in South African local municipalities. Service delivery protests have become a frequent occurrence in the country, with communities expressing dissatisfaction with the quality and accessibility of basic services. The paper identifies lack of basic services, poor service quality, corruption and mismanagement, ineffective communication, unresponsive officials, socio-economic inequality, and political factors as contributing to service delivery protests. The paper draws on existing literature and reports to analyse each of these factors and highlight their impact on service delivery protests. Different databases like Google, Google Scholar, Scopus, AOSIS, ProQuest, and university repositories are utilised to search data. Themes were developed and used to search the data until completion. Thematic Content Analysis (TCA) approach was applied. Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory was adopted to understand the factors contributing to service delivery protests. In conclusion, service delivery protests in South African municipalities can have significant negative impacts on socio-economic development. Addressing the underlying factors of these protests, such as addressing service delivery backlogs, improving governance and accountability, and increasing public participation, can help to mitigate the negative impacts on socio-economic development.

Abstract. This article concerns itself with the 4-celled matrix of the, 4 MAT and Kolb Cycle, very specifically with its experiential domain, which deals with preferences and phobias generated by life experiences. An Equanimeous understanding of such emotions are of vital importance to students for the purpose of eliminating destructive biases that limit their design potential. In order to help students, access such experiences, which often times have been relegated to the unconscious due to their painful nature, this piece have had recourse to Gregory Ulmer's "My story". This is a literary invention that helps trace positive or negative life experiences recurring as themata in an individual's family history, community history, entertainment sphere and career field. An awareness of such themata, which predispose an individual to resort to certain practices to the exclusion of others, is a prerequisite in architectural design since exclusionary approaches tend to deprive designs of their complexity and multifacetedness. Furthermore, architects are the arbiters elegantiae, aesthetic decision makers, for all professions and persons from all walks of life. As such, a sympathetic understanding of the reasons for one's biases or preferences, which is facilitated by the rapprochement of our irrational unconscious with our conscious mind, helps architects design with an open mind and a sense of freedom. In classroom teaching of design theory, teacher superimposed Ulmer's Mystory on the Kolb Cycle's experiential domain, to create a device that helps students get in touch with the experiences of their formative childhood years as a precondition for the understanding of their biases. The creative use of biases as themata in a person's life facilitates the fleshing out of the spatial genome.

Abstract. Far from being a past or obsolete phenomenon, racism is branching out and spreading in many forms today. The scope of the concept of racism remains, however, difficult to demarcate. So is the differentiation of this term from other notions that designate similar attitudes, behaviors and practices. This paper discusses some issues of current interest in relation to racism, starting with the link between the terms "racism" and race, and debating the current distancing and even separation of the two concepts, despite the linguistic link. The paper also analyzes various definitions and perspectives on racism. Some content issues are approached, such as the fact that racism is, as contrary to some shared attitudes such as xenophobia, both an ideology or theory and a set of exclusionary and marginalizing practices. Furthermore, different forms of racism are addressed, from 'classical', biological racism, which resorted to biological differentiations, to the forms of racism that characterize the contemporary world, which emphasize cultural differences and/or include racist views and practices embedded in social values, norms and even in the functioning of society. These present-day forms of racism have been referred to by various expressions, such as cultural racism, differential racism, symbolic racism, racism without races, neo-racism, and institutional racism. Some conclusions are drawn from these delimitations, discussions and reflections, such as that maybe it might be more accurate to speak of racisms in the plural, given that the hypothesis of multiple racisms is increasingly confirmed by practice, as well as the fact that not only multiple racisms but also multiple dogmata should be considered in order to have a comprehensive overview of exclusion, marginalization, oppression, exploitation or discrimination.

Abstract. It is recorded that coronavirus disease (Covid-19) caused massive disruption and significant change in higher education institutions (HEIs), especially in rural-based institutions. The study aims to discuss student-lecturer readiness for online teaching and learning in rural South African HEls in the midst of Covid-19 and beyond. Critical theory was adopted to support discussions of the study. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to achieve the study's intended goal and to test the research questions. Therefore, the researchers used the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis" (PRISMA) guidelines. Thus, Google Scholar, EBSCOhost, ResearchGate, ScienceDirect, Sabinet, ProQuest, Cambridge Core, and Scopus were used by the researchers to retrieve and analyse information from scholarly documents such as peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers (n=12) published between 2002 and 2023. The major findings of the study are based on the literature gathered by the researchers. The study's evidence shows that the pandemic has given rise to learning losses and increases inequality. It was recommended in this study that the government should provide technologies to help students and lecturers adjust to a new mode of teaching and learning.

Abstract. This systematic research synthesis sought to investigate cyberbullying in Nigeria in relation to its concept, prevalence, negative outcomes and intervention. To carry out this review, a systematic search using variations of cyberbullying search terms was performed using some inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results revealed that though some Nigerian researchers have made commendable efforts to investigate cyberbullying among Nigerian youths, the shortcomings in their operational definitions of cyberbullying, may lead to the use of cyber aggression interchangeably with cyberbullying. Results also revealed that in contrast to most countries, no intervention program has been designed to address cyberbullying in Nigeria. This finding has implications for researchers in Nigeria. To prevent cyberbullying victims from suffering the long-term or short-term negative effects associated with cyberbullying, researchers in Nigeria are called upon to develop intervention programs that will serve as evidence-based treatment strategies for the victims of cyberbullying in Nigeria. Future researchers in Nigeria should also take into consideration the 3 important criteria for defining cyberbullying and as well extend their investigation beyond university students.

Abstract. This paper aims to examine the performance of the selected state-owned enterprise (SOE) Eskom. After the democratic era of 1994, there were concentrated efforts in both the public and private sectors in South Africa to restructure the economy to reflect more democracy and inclusiveness in the economy. These efforts have led to the government's recognition of SOEs as essential to economic development, particularly in the provision of services such as electricity, transportation, and telecommunications. However, there seems to be a consensus that there is still a long way to go to meet service delivery targets and achieve the expected excellence SOEs, in Eskom. The major SOEs in South Africa have come under criticism and the media has highlighted their shortcomings. Restructuring, Unbundling, and establishment of ministerial roles in electricity are amongst some of the perfect evidence of challenges by this SOE. Poor governance, mismanagement, allegations of fraud and corruption, and lack of financial sustainability seem to characterize this SOE. This paper is purely theoretical and relies on a literature review to support its arguments. The paper takes note of the goal-setting theory and its ideals to extract and explain the arguments. The study draws on journal articles, books, websites, financial reports, government and performance management reports, and other available materials to support the study's question. As remedies, the paper suggests establishing and enforcing accountability systems and penalties for loss of property or money, further restructuring of boards, reviewing appointment processes, and enforcing performance management systems to improve SOE performance.

Abstract. The objective of the study is to examine the challenges and prospects for the adoption of innovative strategies to enhance the delivery of service in the South African public sector. The public sector is under pressure to provide new public services with increasingly scarce resources. In the context of South Africa, public service is essential because public services are promised and guaranteed by the constitution, and more citizens depend on state provisions, due to the high unemployment rate in the country. As such, using a qualitative approach this study intends to interrogate the concept of innovation in the public sector and its role in ensuring that the public sector provides enhanced services and can meet the needs of the citizens. This article further provides a systematic review of the empirical literature on barriers and benefits within public sector innovation processes and suggests ways in which public service employees can overcome these barriers. The study concludes that public sector innovation has a considerable and varied impact on public sector performance as a result there's a need for innovation to be an integrated part of public sector service delivery.

Abstract. Many governments in the Global South are still vulnerable to poverty, hunger, civil wars, diseases and socioeconomic inequalities that may hinder them from fully embracing digital democracy, where citizens can participate digitally in national affairs. South Africa is one of the countries that are experiencing social ills and where data marginalisation has seen citizens being excluded from using the latest digital technologies ushered in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) to engage with others. To understand how data marginalisation affects the social and economic development in South Africa, the researchers employed a secondary data review approach, which allows for the use of expansive literature sources, documents and peer-reviewed articles on data marginalisation, digital economy and digital participation. The analysis of the aforementioned sources revealed several dangers that data marginalisation poses to social and economic development of South Africa. Due to poverty and unemployment in some South Africa provinces, data marginalisation widens the digital divide due to the absence of digital infrastructure, incompetent leadership, load-shedding and inflation. All these factors infringe on citizens' rights to participate in social and economic discourse using digital media. The research established that governments can address data marginalisation by harnessing their human, financial and technological capacity to embrace modern digital devices and information communication technologies (ICTs) to grow economies and create better living standards for the general citizenry. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on data marginalisation, digital democracy and digital participation, which are some of the expectations of human life in the digital age. The paper recommends that the South African government should provide digital solutions to mitigate the growing data marginalisation and digital divide, which affect the citizen's capacity to connect to the digital world and tap into some of the opportunities that are generated by the vast technological revolution.

Abstract. This paper explores the intersection of dominant pedagogical practices and the concept of epistemic justice in the context of online learning. With the increasing prevalence of digital education, this paper examines how knowledge is constructed, disseminated and accessed in online learning environments. The discourse explores how prevailing pedagogical methods impact the distribution and recognition of knowledge, potentially perpetuating inequalities in online educational spaces. Drawing on Bernstein's theory of the pedagogic device, we identify and analyse various pedagogical approaches commonly employed in online learning. We investigate how these approaches may inadvertently reinforce existing power structures, marginalise certain voices and overlook diverse forms of knowledge representation. Emphasising the importance of epistemic justice, we elucidate the need to acknowledge and validate multiple knowledge systems, cultural perspectives and lived experiences within the online learning landscape. Furthermore, this discourse examines potential strategies and best practices for cultivating epistemically just online learning environments. It underscores the significance of inclusive curriculum design, diverse teaching methodologies and technology integration facilitating equitable knowledge exchange. By addressing the disparities inherent in dominant pedagogies, educators and policymakers can foster an environment that respects, empowers and accommodates the diverse epistemic contributions of students. We advocate for a paradigm shift in online learning towards embracing epistemic justice, thereby advancing a more equitable and inclusive educational experience for all participants. It calls for continued research, dialogue and collaboration to dismantle barriers and create an enriching digital learning environment that promotes epistemic diversity and equality.

Abstract. In this paper, our purpose is to demonstrate that the mythologizing symbolic image plays an important role in the advertising construction, leaving, by extension, its mark on the entire cultural and mental landscape of the contemporary world. Among the traditional mythical structures, several models which are able to steer imagination and reading, but above all, enable performative reflexes influencing consumer's actions, are frequently circulated in the advertising field; they are representative and effective, thus creating fantasy around consumer goods, by inciting desire to buy among customers who can relate to the story portrayed. We are also looking into models of narrative analysis that are most suited to advertising storytelling, focusing mainly on the actantial model proposed by A.J. Greimas and the model developed by Claude Bremond, which bring complementary perspectives: Greimas' model reveals that a product may be either an adjuvant/helper or an opponent in fulfilling a desire (of the consumer), whereas the Bremondian model integrates the product-consumer relationship in a procedural framework which is influenced by the transformation of the states of degradation and amelioration in order to fulfil a desire.

Abstract. The Nigeria Correctional Services is saddled with the responsibilities of ensuring the development, maintenance and rehabilitation of the convicts using correctional facilities. Also, it has a responsibility to ensure security of the inmates and the entire facilities to avoid jail break. Incidentally, jailbreaks seem to have become a recurring incidence in Nigeria particularly under the Buhari administration. Such a worrisome trajectory appears to be linked to poor administration of the correctional services centres. Therefore, this paper examines the nexus between Nigeria state and administration of correctional centres under Buhari Government. The posits that the Nigerian correctional centres are poorly funded, understaffed, lack infrastructural facilities, overcrowded due to delay in justice system and also lack technology to effectively prevent jailbreak. It argues that under-utilization of intelligence and non-installation of surveillance gadgets seem to account for recurring jailbreaks in Nigeria. This has led to increase in insecurity manifest in insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery that has continued to threaten the corporate existence of the Nigerian state. The paper is anchored on broken window theory as a framework of analysis. While relying on documentary approach by utilizing secondary sources of data and depended on content analysis. Paper revealed that under-utilization of intelligence and non-installation of surveillance gadgets in preventing crime by the Nigerian state increased incidences of jailbreak in Nigeria. Thus, it recommends among other things, the need for adequate and timely utilization of intelligence and installation of surveillance in the administration of correctional centres in Nigeria.

Abstract. In this short think-piece, I propose a link between judicial presumptions and pragmatic inferences by reference to the already classical theory of implicatures and presuppositions. Important, however, from the point of view of legal reasoning, remains the act of presuming, which will be treated trough the grid of the theory initiated by Ch. Peirce, as a type of abduction. I argue, in fact, that a presumption is a hypothesis, not a conclusion, and it marks a stage of interpretation.

Abstract. Driver's behaviour is more complex when they are using the road. There are no universal guidelines for such behaviour. The research studied the effect of gender on driver behaviour in road traffic crashes in Lagos State. For data collection, a cross sectional research design was adopted. The data used in this study were collected from drivers in Lagos state through the use of a Driver Behaviour Questionnaire (DBQ) and Driver Skill Inventory (DSI), Survey between February, 2021 and March, 2022. Three thousand seven hundred (3,700) questionnaires were administered and 3,270 questionnaires were retrieved. The data generated were analysed using Chi-square tests, student't' test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the mann-whitney 'U' test statistics. These techniques were used to test the differences between male and female drivers on the driver behaviour (DBQ) and driver skill inventory (DSI) items. The study revealed that more than half of the studied drivers in Lagos State (66%) were men whereas (44%) were women. Also among the studied drivers, young drivers of the age group below 30 years (37.2%) were involved in accident crashes with a higher risk of involving in an accident. The analyses also showed that women reported a higher number of violations, and lapses. However, no significant association was found between male and female drivers in terms of errors. The results also showed that six (6) items of violations, three (3) items of lapses and three (3) items of error had significant association among male drivers as compared to female drivers in Lagos State. Based on the findings preventive measures are suggested to reduce the road accident crashes such as training and retraining of drivers, driver education, enforcement, seatbelts, speed limits etc.

Abstract. The notion of malnutrition remains the world's most serious health problem and the single biggest contributor to child mortality. Although food gardens are not specifically mentioned, they have the potential to impact to provide support for malnourished and sick people including children and adults and potentially provide nutritional diversity to support complementary feeding. This study aim at examining the role of school gardening Programme and its impact on malnutrition in the South African rural communities. Data reveals that many children in the rural communities of South Africa suffer from malnutrition and they are experiencing several health consequences. Moreover, this is common among the children at most primary and secondary school. Therefore, the lack of economic resources and absence of information regarding nutrition and inadequate breastfeeding increases the chances and number of malnourished children in the rural communities. This is a conceptual or abstract paper where by the authors relied merely on secondary data and government document in writing and achieving the set goals and objectives. The study conclude that school gardening programs have the potential to play a fundamental role in addressing malnutrition in South African rural communities. By providing learners with access to fresh produce, nutrition education, and promoting environmental sustainability, these programs can have a positive impact on the health and well-being of students and their communities.

Abstract. The study analyses the role of public sector management within the public sector environment. The study seeks to establish the significance and the role of project management in government. The qualitative research methodology is adopted by the study with reference to the desktop approach which is entirely derived from secondary data. The study explores the significance of the nine knowledge areas of project management in government projects. The paradigm shifts of Public Administration from a traditional approach to the New Public Management and post-New Public management brought increasing demands, which required the intervention of the principles of project management. Project management is a difficult process, especially when it involves the project team and other stakeholders working for a long time. The escalating difficulties need the best management principles and mechanisms to determine the utilization of resources. Therefore, public project management can add value to the public sector environment. Project management plays a notable role in ensuring the development of successful projects and completion of projects within the agreed timelines both in the private and public sectors.

Abstract. The major goal of this study was to determine the root causes of a Technical Vocational Education Training College's high failure and dropout rates. A high dropout rate for engineering students has been experienced in the past few academic years and a survey was conducted to determine the reasons for this. Besides establishing the causes of high dropout, the study focused on the implementation of academic activities and strategies to minimize the high dropout rate. Social critical theory was the theoretical foundation for this investigation. Sixteen (16) participants were purposefully selected to participate in face-to-face interviews as a method of collecting relevant data. While data was being collected qualitatively through interviews, data analysis began and was continued on completion of the interviews from which transcriptions were made. Transcription was followed by coding to develop themes used as findings in the study. Findings showed that poor academic performance leads to a high dropout rate accompanies by a lack of teaching and learning resources, a poor living environment, the Covid-19 pandemic, financial challenges and a lack of expertise in mathematics and physical sciences. In response, the following recommendations were made develop policies to deal with and manage students' absenteeism; strict application of rules on admission policies which outlines requirements for enrolling engineering students; and improving methods of making resources available at the Technical Vocational Education Training College's.

Abstract. The purpose of the paper is to investigate the challenges encountered by the Local Economic Development (LED) unit in South African municipalities. The aim of LED is to ensure sustainable employment growth and the equal distribution of economic activities in the society. The South African government adopted LED in 1996, however, unemployment is still high. The paper seeks to propose resolutions to challenges encountered by LED in order to augment its efficacy in municipalities. The South African government is using LED to enforce the notion of quality life for all, however, there is a seemingly bottleneck when implementing LED in municipalities. Such a bottleneck hinders the optimal and maximum impact of the LED. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to identify the obstacles that pose a threat to the efficiency of LED. This will enable local municipalities to tackle these challenges effectively and strive to increase the effect of LED. The paper used qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Senior officials were interviewed while questionnaires were administered to officials within the LED department. The paper found the following challenges of the LED unit in the Polokwane Local Municipality: inadequate financial resources, short of staff; lack of synergy with other developmental programmes in the LED unit, inadequate infrastructure, and some areas in the municipality are owned by the traditional council. The paper recommends that the municipality should stop deploying projects that are not within the scope of LED in the LED unit, provide adequate staff members, provide additional funding and skilled personnel to the LED unit, and establish a relationship with traditional council that owns land in the municipal area.

Abstract. Smartphones are seen as the primary source of mobile gaming's popularity and mobile game addiction. This study investigates the link between lack of self-control and addiction to mobile gaming, with a specific emphasis on the role that smartphone addiction plays in mediating this connection. Data were collected from a convenience sample consisting of 276 students registered in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes at one college. Of the participants, 58% were female, and 42% were male. The primary data were collected using a cross-sectional survey and analysed using structural equation modelling. The structural equation modelling and mediation analysis revealed that addiction to mobile games and smartphone use is highly linked to a lack of self-control. The results also indicated that smartphone addiction partially explains the pervasiveness of gaming addiction among TVET students. The research emphasised how critical it is for students to have the capacity to exercise self-control, particularly in light of the fact that modern conveniences such as smartphones are essentially an extension of one's own hands. The study recommends that higher education institutions provide support to students who are caught up in excessive time spent on smartphones. It also recommends introducing control measures so as to foster a sense of awareness and self-regulation among students, therefore encouraging them to make well-informed choices regarding the allocation of their screen time.

Abstract. Agriculture can be a tool in uplifting the livelihoods of rural communities. Thus, agricultural projects can play a pivotal role in the advancement of people living in rural areas. The sustainability of agricultural projects through effective management results in achieving rural development. However, small scale or emerging farmers face a myriad of challenges in their farming activities, and this negatively impacts the success of their projects. The study investigated the factors that limit the effective management and sustainability of agricultural projects in a selected local municipality of the Limpopo Province, South Africa. The findings show that participants' education levels contribute to the effective (or lack thereof) management of the projects. The type of crops or agriculture projects one pursues determines the income generated and the sustainability of the project. The study recommends the up skilling of the beneficiaries of such projects which include financial management training. Further, a different funding model is needed for the benefit of both the government and the small-scale and sustenance farmers.

Abstract. In this article we wanted to clarify that in the process of education reform, the development of a new curriculum occupies a central place. The school and curriculum must provide a coherent and flexible framework, in which cooperation, thinking, independence, freely expressed opinion, tolerance and values assumed by each are defining dimensions. I applied the method: What do I know?/ What do I want to know? / What have we learned? We came to the conclusion that the formation of systems thinking and teamwork skills become essential for stimulating initiative and creativity.

Abstract. Parenting Children with Disabilities (CWD) is a challenge. This study explored experiences of parenting CWD in rural South Africa. A qualitative approach using a phenomenological design was used with four participants. Semi-structured personal interviews were used to get the experiences of parenting CWD. Data were analysed thematically to gain experiences of parenting CWD experiences. The results show that parenting CWD was challenging and caused stress to parents and the rest of society. Five themes emerged from the data analysis: peer support groups; exhaustion; public transport systems within communities; parental distress and embarrassment; stigma, and discrimination. Peer support groups helped parents of CWD to cope with parenting challenges. Parenting roles for CWD rested more on females than males, possibly due to the constant care CWD need. CWD was a burden because it stressed the mothers, parents, and relatives. Parents with disabled children experienced stigmatisation and isolation from the community.

Abstract. The objective of the study explore the 'new normal' introduced by the global covid-19 pandemic and the South African education post-pandemic recovery strategy. The study discussed the recovery strategies adopted by the South African institution of higher learning post-CVID-19, to understand the innovative measures used, as well as the impact of the covid-19 epidemic in South Africa. On March 15, 2020, all South African post-secondary institutions began to implement steps to achieve the government's mandate of social isolation and lockdown, while continuing to conduct their main business of teaching and learning. To prepare for the national lockdown measures, a public higher education institution performed an immediate examination of all operations supporting and enabling the academic project. "There was a 'new normal,' with all teaching and learning activities taking place entirely online and academic staff needing to quickly prepare and capacitate themselves". This paper uses a qualitative technique or approach and the data were primarily collected through secondary sources with baseline available literature to critically reflect on how societies have dealt with such pandemics and shocks, situating the South African experience in a global and comparative perspective. It serves as an institutional case study, critically examining how its ideal of accessible excellence and equity was mediated by current events and its agility, emphasizing some of the problems and conflicts during the pandemic.

Abstract. This article analysis the impact of menstruation on girl's school attendance and how that impact on women's participation in developmental issues. It is estimated that most girl-children miss attending classes when they are on a menstruating cycle. Since menstruation only affect girls, boys do not have disrupted school attendance as compared to girls. Absence from school due to menstruation is argued to happen mostly at primary school than at high school level. The onset of menstruation can be very traumatic for young girls if unprepared. This can also be exacerbated by patriarchal views of menstruation as dirty and something that must be hidden from the public eye, including to men. In South Africa the debate around access to sanitary products by schoolgirls resulted in the removal of Value Added Tax (VAT) from sanitary towels. This article is qualitative in approach and uses desktop study method. The perception of menstruation is largely viewed from a patriarchal perspective, resulting in shame for girl child. The study concludes that missing school due to menstruation has a serious effect on girl's performance at school and in turn women's future participation in development since it has direct impact on women's literacy levels.

Abstract. The war in Ukraine, and now the war in the Gaza Strip, has been different from previous armed conflicts. In the case of the two military conflicts, we have witnessed two types of warfare, one on the battlefield and another informational, with unconventional weapons. Both have brought disinformation to unprecedented levels worldwide. In the Gaza war, fake news was spread through social media, and not infrequently, videos or photos were even picked up by media outlets in several countries. This has been possible primarily due to the lightning development of artificial intelligence tools, making it difficult to verify whether these images are from war-affected areas or fake. Secondly, the development of citizen journalism poses risks in the context of news that needs to be thoroughly verified. In this article, a content analysis is made of several fake news stories and how false information about the armed conflict in the Middle East has been propagated. This research could be helpful for researchers, media representatives, as well as decision-makers, and organizations working to combat disinformation.

Abstract. This paper explores the representation of women in Romanian films during the communist period under Ceauşescu's regime, especially after the implementation of the July thesis in 1971, when additional restrictions were imposed on the population. The paper examines two audiovisual productions that focus on the portrayal and position of women in society. The films, Cine mă strigă (Who is Calling Me?) and Angela merge mai departe (Angela Moves On), are analyzed in order to explain issues and topics related to women's lives. The paper argues that despite the prevailing censorship and self-censorship, these films can offer insight into women's emancipation with respect to their rights and the social context in which they live.

Abstract. In today's society, there is a growing awareness of the historical neglect of mental health, particularly during the post-industrial era. Consequently, there is a concerted effort to identify practical solutions for addressing the prevalent ailments of our time, namely stress and depression. Promoting engagement in physical activities is heralded as a convenient, low-risk approach in contrast to traditional methods of treating and preventing mental health disorders, as well as the overall health issues arising from a sedentary lifestyle. The World Health Organization underscores the importance of physical activity for adults, recommending a minimum of 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity. Another noteworthy catalyst driving the popularity of physical activities is the influence of social media. This digital platform not only perpetuates specific beauty standards but also encourages users to explore various avenues to enhance both their physical appearance and performance. Once more, the most accessible pathway to attain these objectives is through consistent engagement in physical exercises, which aid in weight management and enhance muscle tone and overall physique. Nevertheless, a quandary emerges: while physical activity is a powerful tool against stress and depression, the pursuit of unrealistic beauty standards may hinder its anticipated psycho-emotional benefits. An additional facet to contemplate when examining the impact of physical activities on psycho-emotional well-being is the evolving notion of "normalcy" in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract. The rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence (AI) capable of producing highly realistic images presents profound ethical challenges for journalism. This paper examines the multifaceted ethical landscape surrounding Al-generated imagery in news contexts, synthesizing current scholarship and expert perspectives. It analyzes the significant risks posed by synthetic media, focusing on four key themes: the potential for Al-generated visuals to propagate misinformation and erode public trust; the direct challenges to journalistic integrity and traditional ethical codes demanding truth and accuracy; the complex dynamics of audience perception, media literacy, and trust in an era where distinguishing authentic visuals from fakes is increasingly difficult; and the development of policy recommendations and best practices for navigating this terrain. The paper highlights the urgent need for rigorous verification, clear labeling and disclosure, restricted use in factual reporting, updated internal policies, leveraging authentication technologies, and a continued commitment to core journalistic values to maintain credibility and public trust amidst the transformative impact of Al on visual information.
